Report and Body Cam Footage Released, Failed Response from Uvalde Police

A report and police body cam footage have been released this past weekend by Uvalde officials and Texas lawmakers, finding the officers called to the scene at Robb Elementary School on May 24 irresponsible when it came to confrontation with the gunman who left 19 fourth-graders and two teachers dead.

The 77-page report recounted Uvalde’s police involvement in the shooting. With almost 400 officers responding to the attack, the lawmakers concluded that law-enforcement “failed to prioritize saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety”.

The body cam footage belonging to SWAT Commander, Eduardo Canalas, further proves this report. The three-minute video shows Canalas and seven other officers refraining from entering Rooms 111 and 112 where the gunman had been. A lack of urgency is apparent in this video as Canalas and the other officers move back and forth from the hallway towards outside where students were being rescued through the window.

This was recorded 15 minutes after the SWAT team arrived on the scene. Since the release of the footage, families of the victims have reviewed it and shared their disappointment with the actions of law-enforcement during this massacre.
