Indiana Cop Killed During Traffic Stop

Around 2AM on Sunday, 24-year-old Elwood Police Department officer Noah Shahnavaz was fatally shot during a traffic stop. The department reported that the suspect, 42-year-old Carl Webb Boards II, exited his Buick and fired multiple rounds at Shahnavaz “[f]or an unknown reason,” wrote ABC7 News.

Boards fled in his car, resulting in a 30 minute chase that ended with his capture by police. His previous criminal record includes a 2006 conviction for “firing a gun at Indianapolis officers,” according to ABC7 News. Boards is currently being jailed at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office without bail.

The New York Daily News describes Shahnavaz as an 11-month employee of the Elwood Police Department and a five-year military veteran.
