“How to Murder Your Husband” Writer Found Guilty of just That

Aspiring romance novel writer Nancy Crampton-Brophy was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday, May 25 of the second-degree murder of her husband, Daniel Brophy. The jury, made up of seven women and five men, deliberated for two days before coming to a judgment in the Multnomah County courtroom in Oregon according to USA Today.

Daniel Brophy, a chef for most of his life, was shot twice inside his culinary institute classroom where he taught. It appeared from the forensics report that he was shot at close range, and his wallet was found with him at the scene.

Crampton-Brophy’s motive for killing her husband appears to be economic. The two appeared to live modestly but struggled with debt and could only continue to live as they were by draining their retirement funds two years prior. According to CNN, Daniel did not mind their lifestyle, but Nancy craved more luxury than they could afford, but Daniel’s over 1.5 million dollars in life insurance could get her there.

Nancy’s writing career began in 2011 with a hint of foreshadowing, her essay entitled “How to Murder Your Husband” where she outlined different methods of killing such a loved one along with their pros and cons according to The Guardian. Despite her long trice for murdering a partner explored there and in her later books without being caught, the struggling creative will return to court on June 13th for sentencing, looking forward to a minimum of 25 years in prison.
