Four People Arrested in Connection with the Drug Overdose Death of Actor Michael K. Williams
Four men have been arrested in connection with the death of 54-year-old actor Michael K. Williams, who died of an accidental overdose in September. According to PIX11, the defendants are facing narcotics conspiracy charges of distributing fentanyl-laced heroin. Surveillance footage showed one of the men charged handing over a bag of drugs to Williams, who would be found dead just hours later.
In a statement released by the Southern District of New York, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams reiterated that the use of fentanyl-laced drugs is a “public health crisis” and that “it has to stop.”
Deadly opioids like fentanyl and heroin don’t care about who you are or what you’ve accomplished. They just feed addiction and lead to tragedy. The Southern District of New York and our law enforcement partners will not give up. We will bring every tool to bear. And we will continue to hold accountable the dealers who push this poison, exploit addiction, and cause senseless death.
Michael K. Williams garnered fame playing Omar Little in HBO’s “The Wire,” and had been publicly candid about his struggles with drug addiction. The case is ongoing and is being handled by the SDNY Narcotics Unit.
