Diary of a Wimpy Kid actor, Ryan Grantham, murdered his mother and allegedly planned to kill Canadian Prime Minister

Ryan Grantham, 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after shooting his mother, Barbara Waite, 64, in the back of the head while she played piano in their townhouse on March 31, 2020. Grantham mentioned in his statement to police and in his private journal that he wanted to kill Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, next.

According to the CBC, the day after Grantham murdered his mother, he packed his car with three guns, ammunition, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping supplies, and a paper with printed directions to Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, where Trudeau lives with his family.

The former Diary of a Wimpy Kid actor began driving east before he decided to turn around. Grantham started to think about killing people on Vancouver’s Lions Bridge or at his previous school, Simon Fraser University, instead.

In the end, he decided to drive to Vancouver police headquarters to turn himself in. He approached a police officer sitting in his police car and confessed. “I killed my mother,” he told the police officer.

In court, psychiatric reports were shared, and they showed that Grantham had feelings of self-loathing, and an urge to commit violence before the murder occurred, reported CBC.

On April 1, Grantham’s sister Lisa Grantham found the body of her mother. Lisa Grantham was worried about Barbara Waite after she never responded to her phone calls or text messages, according to the New York Post.

On March 9, Ryan Grantham pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. The crown is requesting no possibility of parole for 18 years.
