College Students Sentenced after Fraternity Hazing Resulted in Death

Fox News reports that five (5) college students were sentenced on Thursday for their roles in the death of Stone Foltz, 19. Jarret Prizel, Daylen Dunson, Ben Boyers, Niall Sweeney, and Aaron Lehane were all members of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and Foltz died as a result of hazing at a fraternity initiation event. Foltz, who was a sophomore at Bowling Green State University, died on March 7, 2021, from alcohol poisoning. Allegedly, the senior members of the fraternity had provided each of the initiates a bottle of alcohol each, and required them to drink the whole bottle. Foltz was found unconscious by his roommate after fraternity members had brought him back to his apartment. Foltz was on life support for three (3) days before he died.

Prizel, 19, Dunson, 22, and Boyers, 21, all pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and hazing counts. Dunson and Boyers also pleaded guilty to obstructing justice, and Dunson also admitted to tampering with evidence. Sweeney, 21, and Lehane, 21, pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and hazing, and Lehane also admitted to obstructing official business. All five men were ordered to serve 28 days of house arrest.

Prizel was sentenced to 28 days in jail and two years' probation. Dunson received a 21-day jail term and three years of probation, and Sweeney received a 14-day jail sentence and two years of probation.

Boyers and Lehane were each sentenced to two years' probation.

Three other members of the fraternity are still awaiting their sentences.

All 8 men were expelled from Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
