An active shooter canceled Craig Robinson's comedy show
Craig Robinson, The Office actor, was forced to cancel his comedy show Saturday night after an “active shooter” made an appearance at the venue in the Comedy Zone in Charlotte, North Carolina.
At roughly 9:15 p.m. EST, a man “pointed a firearm at them [audience members] and made threats of bodily harm,” according to The Washington Post. Before the shooter opened fire, the comedy club was evacuated.
Police moved Robinson to a nearby theater, the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheater—where Big Time Rush was performing—while authorities handled the situation. Shortly after, police arrested the suspect and took him into custody. When the unidentified man was booked, authorities found that he had a prior felony conviction.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Chief Johnny Jennings, the suspect “brandished a firearm inside the business, which was quickly evacuated. The suspect then discharged his weapon. There were no injured and the suspect was taken into custody.”
The identity of the gunman has not been released.
In a video Robinson posted on Instagram Saturday night, he talked about the situation. In the 5-minute video, Robinson said, “There was an active shooter in the comedy club. So, they moved us over, there’s a concert going on, and it’s Big Time Rush. Big Time Rush to the rescue. I’m safe. It’s cool. We cool. It was just wild.” He goes on saying, “I was in the green room, and they were like “Everybody get out!” At the end of his video, someone is heard saying, “They got him.”
Robinson also posted on Instagram on Sunday, thanking the Comedy Zone security and staff for how they handled the situation and for keeping everybody safe. He also said, “Hopefully he [the suspect] gets the help he needs. Thanks be to God no one was hurt. Please stay safe everyone.”
