A Homeowner Killed 20-Year-Old After Her Vehicle Pulled Into His Driveway

Per a news release by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, 65-year-old Kevin Monahan shot and killed 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis after her vehicle pulled into his driveway on Saturday night. Monahan fired at least two shots at the vehicle and Gillis was pronounced dead at the scene.

People reports Monohan was uncooperative with the investigation and refused to exit his residence to speak with police. After several hours, he was taken into custody with the assistance of the New York State Police Special Operation Response Team. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

During a press conference on Monday, Washington County Sheriff Jeffery Murphy explained that Gillis was riding in the vehicle with three other passengers looking for a friend’s house when they mistakenly pulled into Monahan’s driveway. Murohey added, "It's a very rural area, it's dirt roads, there's not a lot of cellular services or any type of internet.” The group reportedly drove off the property after shots were fired and called 911.

According to CNN, Monahan is being held at the Warren County Jail and will have a court appearance in the near future. A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help Gillis’ family with funeral expenses and any immediate financial needs.
