Man Charged With Federal Hate Crime After Attempted Murder of Gay Man
An Oregon man was charged with a federal hate crime after he stalked and attempted to murder a gay man, the Department of Justice reports.Daniel Andrew McGee met the victim on an app called Grindr, a dating app primarily targeted towards gay men. McGee planned the attack for weeks leading up to it. This included things like viewing anti-gay material (which depicted crimes against gay people), purchasing weapons online, and researching how to get away with the crime of murder.After the victim invited McGee over to his residence, he agreed and went over. He immediately began to bludgeon the victim with a wooden club repeatedly. "The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital."On November the 15th, McGee was arrested and stood before a federal court, ultimately being charged with a federal hate crime against the man.
