An Iowa man has been charged with the murder and abuse of the corpse of a former acquaintance, The Des Moines Register reports.
Steven Vogel, 32, was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Michael Williams, 44.
The body of Williams was found in a ditch after a fire was reported. When police went and investigated the fire, they discovered Williams in the ditch.
In investigating the body, the cause of death was determined to be strangulation. In further investigation, police determined that Williams had probably been dead for a few days before his body was burned in the ditch.
“He had killed “Black Mike” by clubbing his head from behind and hanging him with a rope in the basement of Vogel’s Grinnell home.”
According to the Des Moines Register, “prosecutors argued Vogel was angry at Williams because there was allegedly a “love triangle” between Vogel’s girlfriend and Williams.”
