Vermont Father Accused of Fleeing Crash and Losing Son in Brook

Darel A. Galorenzo, 35, has been charged in connection with the death of his 2-year-old son. According to People, authorities allege the toddler drowned in a brook after his father lost the boy while fleeing a car crash.

Galorenzo pleaded not guilty on Monday to manslaughter, reckless endangerment of a child, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and operating under the influence. In a statement from the Massachusetts State Police, authorities allege the 2-year-old died "after his father while fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle crash on foot, lost the child in a brook."

Fox News reports authorities responded to the crash in Clarksburg just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, where they found Galorenzo near a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek. A trooper from State Police-Cheshire Barracks and Clarksburg Firefighters immediately began to search Hudson Brook for the child. The young boy was located and pulled from the waters shortly after 2 a.m. He was rushed to Berkshire Medical Center and pronounced dead.

The 35-year-old was also transported to Berkshire Medical Center under police guard for evaluation. According to People, he was later arrested and charged. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office has stated the investigation is ongoing and additional charges related to the toddler’s death are anticipated.
