Va. Mom Killed Her Daughters in “Revenge Plot” Against Ex-Husband

Veronica Youngblood, 37, was convicted last week of killing her two daughters, Sharon Castro, 15, and Brooklyn Youngblood, 5. The Virginia woman fatally shot the young girls in their McLean home on Aug. 5, 2018.

NBC4, reports Youngblood told police her plan was to exact revenge on her ex-husband who was scheduled to move to Missouri with Brooklynn that weekend, by killing her children and then turning the gun on herself.

The night of the killing, Youngblood gave her daughters sleeping pill gummies before shooting them in their beds. Brooklyn was shot once in the head and died at the scene. Sharon was shot twice. Before she died, she was able to call 911 and talk to officers on the scene. "She said her mom came into the room and said, 'I'm gonna take you to see God,' and then shot her," an officer testified, according to NBC4

The Washington Post reports Veronica Youngblood was taken into custody after she called her ex-husband and left a voicemail admitting to the killings. Youngblood’s attorney claimed that she had been physically and sexually abused and was hearing voices that commanded her to kill her daughters prior to the murders.

According to ot The Washington Post, Youngblood pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but was sentenced to up to 78 years in prison on Monday. Jurors also found Youngblood guilty of gun charges.
