Shooting in the back of an Uber
Gladys Yvette Borcela, 28, was riding in an Uber with six other passengers on Saturday when one of them shot and killed her.
Borcela was killed in the backseat of an Uber by 24-year-old Natalia Harrell after an argument ensued.
The female shooter was at the Clevelander Hotel and Bar Saturday night with some friends when one of the men in the group asked if she had any more friends that would like to join them. One of the women showed the men Borcela’s Instagram account and invited her to join them.
A witness said in a statement that Harrell became irritated when Borcela began to “drink and dance,” and sent a text message to the witness saying to “get her girl under control.”
At 2:15 a.m., the seven passengers entered a 2020 Cadillac Escalade leaving The Urban in downtown Miami.
Shortly after entering the vehicle, the two women began to argue and call each other names. The fighting escalated, and Natalia Harrell moved to the front of the Uber. While looking at the passengers, she continued to shout, “You don’t want this; you don’t want me to go in my purse,” the report said.
According to Local 10, the surveillance footage from the Uber showed the two women in a heated argument before Harrell pulled a gun out of her purse and fired one shot at Borcela.
After the gunshot was fired, the Uber driver stopped the vehicle and all the passengers, including Harrell, left the scene.
Borcela never made it out of the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Yvette Rivera, Borcela’s mother, created a GoFundMe account to raise money for funeral arrangements and for Borcela’s three children.
In the description, Rivera wrote, “My daughters life was taken away from her and she did not deserve this. She was the life of the party and a beautiful soul to be around. She always held her hand out for any one that needed her even when she had battles of her own. She put her 3 beautiful children first and now they have to grow up and only hear of memories of their beautiful mother. I don’t even know how to tell my grand baby’s someone took their mother away from us.”
Natalia Harrell was arrested early Tuesday and is being held without bond. She is facing a second-degree murder charge.
