Roske Charged with Attempted Murder of Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh

Nicholas Roske, 26, has been identified as the man who was arrested in front of Brett Kavanaugh’s house yesterday morning. According to the New York Post, the Simi Valley resident has been charged with attempted murder. Last night, 6/8/2022, FBI agents raided Roske’s home in California and started canvassing neighbors.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Roske was seen getting out of a taxi at 1:05 am. Federal agents say he was dressed in black clothing and carrying a backpack and suitcase. Roske caught sight of the agents and walked away from the house. According to prosecutors, he called the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center and said that he was having suicidal thoughts, that he had a firearm in his suitcase, and that he had planned to kill Justice Kavanaugh. He was arrested while still on the call and transported to a police station. He was armed with a Glock 17 pistol, ammunition, a knife, tactical gear, pepper spray and other items, including zip ties, a hammer, a screwdriver and duct tape. Roske allegedly told detectives that he was angry about the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade, and also upset about the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas earlier this month.

Of course, Roske was not the only person upset about the leaked draft opinion on Roe v. Wade, nor about school shootings. Other people have taken to protesting for or against abortion and gun rights. Trigger words/phrases right now include “bodily autonomy”, “gun control”, “pro-choice”, “gun violence”, “pro-life”, and “right to life”. In fact, other people have been protesting in front of Kavanaugh’s house, only with signs instead of guns.

According to court documents, Roske told investigators that he “began thinking about how to give his life purpose and decided that he would kill the Supreme Court Justice.”

He appeared before a federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland. Roske hesitated several times while responding to inquiries from the U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Sullivan during a 10-minute hearing.

Roske was charged with one count of attempting to murder or kidnap a U.S. judge, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
