Police Release New Video Evidence in Unsolved Gilgo Beach Murders
Authorities in Suffolk County released new video evidence on Tuesday showing the last known surveillance footage of Megan Waterman, one of the victims in the unsolved Gilgo Beach murders. These murders are thought to have been committed by an elusive serial killer nicknamed the Long Island Serial Killer.
Waterman’s remains were found along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach in 2010. Between 2010 and 2011, the remains of 10 people were found in the same general area. Police believed that half of the victims were sex workers who advertised their services on Craigslist.
The newly released video shows Waterman arriving and then leaving the Happauge Holiday Inn Express in June 2010. Authorities believe that the left the hotel on the night of June 6 to meet her killer.
ABC News reports that the Suffolk County Police announced that it is doubling the Crime Stoppers reward to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
