NFL Quarterback Deshaun Watson Avoids Indictment by a Second Grand Jury

A second grand jury in Texas convened on Thursday where they declined to indict NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson, who was accused of sexual misconduct by 22 massage therapists, the New York Post reports.

“After a careful and thorough review of the facts and evidence documented in the reports prepared by the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office and the Houston Police Department, as well as hearing testimony from witnesses, the Grand Jury for Brazoria County has declined to charge Deshaun Watson with any crimes. Accordingly, this matter is closed," Brazoria County District Attorney Tom Selleck said in a statement.

Earlier this month, a grand jury in Harris County, Texas, also declined to press charges on Watson.

Though he won’t face criminal charges in Texas, there is a possibility he could face disciplinary action by the NFL. ESPN reports that the NFL could suspend Watson “for a minimum of six games through its code of conduct policy for violations related to sexual assault.”

Last week, Watson was traded by the Houston Texans to the Cleveland Browns. The team owners, Jimmy and Dee Haslam said that they are conducting an internal investigation into the sexual misconduct. Nevertheless, the Cleveland Browns gave Watson a new five-year contract worth $230 million.
