New Details Emerge in Lily Peters Homicide

The body of Lily Peters, 10, was found near a walking trail in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on Monday. Now, authorities say they know how she died and who killed her.

According to preliminary autopsy findings obtained by CNN, Peters was strangled and suffered blunt force trauma.

In a press conference, Chippewa Falls Police Chief Matthew Kelm told reporters that they had a suspect in custody—a 14-year-old boy who was known to the victim. Kelm also stated that police received over 200 tips that were “critical” to solving the case.

The New York Post reports that Reddit users on the True Crime subreddit may have provided some of those critical tips. On Tuesday, an anonymous poster wrote a comment that has since been deleted about possibly spotting Lily with her attacker:

“What’s scary is I was playing Pokemon Go in the park that day walking along that very same trial [sic], my stomach turns when I think that I saw that girl in a pink/purple hoodie on her bike with another kid on my way out. I have a suspicion that it could be another kid that did it.”

Other users urged the person who posted the comment to call the police, but the account went silent, causing other users to call in the tip themselves. It’s unknown if this tip was taken into consideration by Chippewa Falls Police.

The suspect is being held on a $1 million cash bond after appearing in court on Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree sexual assault and first-degree sexual assault of a child.
