Near Simultaneous Bank Robberies in Texas
The Houston Chronicle reports that there were two attempted bank robberies in the same afternoon. The banks, situated in Brazoria County, were right across the street from one another. Both robberies occurred Monday (7/11) afternoon.
While police were investigating the first attempted robbery, they received reports of another robbery happening across the street.
The first report came in around 3:30pm. The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office received a call describing two men who had attempted to rob the Wells Fargo bank in the 10100 block of Broadway in Pearland. Allegedly, a guard from an armored truck shot at their car (a white Cadillac CTS) as they were leaving the building. The guard hit the driver’s side several times. The armored truck driver sustained non-life threatening injuries from fragments off a ricochet.
It was unclear if either of the two suspected thieves were injured, or if they were successful in stealing anything from the bank.
While still investigating this first robbery, at 4:30pm, police received reports of a robbery in the 10200 block of Broadway, at a Bank of America branch. A customer was reportedly robbed of a bank bag and an indeterminate amount of cash. The people involved in this second theft drove away in a late model blue hatchback SUV, possibly a Honda Pilot, according to the sheriff's office.
It is currently unclear if the two robberies were connected. The FBI has offered assistance in the investigation.
