Missouri Man Beat Disabled Sister to Death

63-year-old Katherine Sokolich (‘Kathryn’ according to her probate case documents) was beaten severely on July 2nd by her brother and court-ordered guardian, 70-year-old Anthony Sokolich. ABC News reports emergency responders arrived at the St. Louis County condo shared by the siblings after Anthony called, saying his sister was unresponsive. Katherine, who was disabled, had suffered severe injuries to the face and was hospitalized with a brain bleed. KMOV News states she died the following day.

Anthony admitted to police that he had struck his sister until she fell unconscious, and he was arrested on Sunday for first-degree assault, held on $250,000 cash bond. According to ABC News, his charges will likely face an upgrade due to Katherine’s death. Sokolich is due to appear in court today, and no attorney was found publicly listed for him. St. Louis County police Sgt. Tracy Panus speculated to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Sokolich’s motive had arisen when he became “frustrated with taking care of [Katherine].”
