Man's Family Comes to His Defense After He Shot His Niece

Levante Cummings, 27, of East Point, Georgia faces two felony counts, if convicted of fatally shooting his 4-year-old niece, but his family claims her death was an accident.

Janiya Jenkins, 4, was shot to death at Summit Hill apartments in Atlanta, Georgia. Police believe her uncle, Levante Cummings, is responsible for her death, while Cummings’ family, including the mother of Jenkins, believe the incident was a tragic accident, according to People.

Jessica Jenkins, Janiya’s mother, insists that her brother was sleeping when the gun went off. She believes Janiya accidentally shot herself and her brother should only be blamed for leaving the gun out.

There is a current ongoing investigation.
