Man Who Killed and Dismembered Parents Sentenced to Life in Prison
Twenty-four year-old Chandler Halderson has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted in January in the murder and dismemberment of his parents Bart and Krista Halderson.
Halderson was convicted in January on two counts each of first-degree murder, intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, and falsifying a missing person’s report. Judge John Hyland of Dane County, Wisconsin, sentenced Halderson to two life sentences and delivered the maximum sentences for the other charges.
Judge Hyland said during sentencing that: “I have to, for this sentence, ensure that the only time Mr. Halderson comes back into the community is to have the privilege of a burial he denied his parents.”
In his first time speaking publicly, Halderson spoke publicly about beginning the process of appeals. According to court records, he filed a notice of intent to pursue post-conviction relief. He stated that if there were any lawyers watching to please reach out to him. Judge Hyland had to court-order Halderson to be at his sentencing, after originally requesting to skip the hearing.
In July 2021 during the Fourth of July weekend, Chandler first killed his father, 50-year-old Bart, and 53-year-old Krista after they found out he had been lying about attending community college and obtaining a job at SpaceX.
Chandler placed parts of his parents remains in the fireplace of their home, then scattered the rest on his girlfriend’s property and other various areas around Dane County. He initially lied to police and filed missing persons report before he was arrested. Both Bart and Krista were identified through DNA testing.
