Illinois woman shot five times through front door, more than 70 shells at scene
A 58-year-old-woman is left recovering from an attack Monday from which she suffered five gunshot wounds.
In a news release from Champaign Police, the shooting happened a little before 1 a.m.
The woman heard a knock on her door when she reportedly said, “Who is it?” This is when the offender(s) began shooting through her front door.
Champaign Police believe there could be more than one suspect in this case. Police found 75 shell casings at the 0-100 block of East Beardlsey Avenue with damage to other properties.
The press release states police found a black Dodge Durango wrecked in the area of Logan and Neil Street. There was a gun in the vehicle along with a spent shell casing and a live round.
According to People, the driver fled the scene before police arrived.
The vehicle is thought to be stolen and police are working to process it for any evidence that may lead to an arrest.
Champaign Police are asking anyone in the area with outside cameras to contact them as they think this could be crucial in catching the suspect(s).
The news release also states there was damage to other nearby residences and vehicles.
