Florida Man Released From Prison 32 Years After He Was Wrongfully Convicted

Thomas Raynard James, 55, was released from prison last Wednesday, April 27, after serving 32 years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit.

James was convicted in 1990 for home invasion and the murder of Francis McKinnon. He was convicted after mistaken identification, as he has the same name as the suspect. On Jan. 11, 1991, he was sentenced to life in prison on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery.

After multiple re-tests of DNA samples, and new eye-witness interviews, James was exonerated.

According to Oxygen, Assistant State Attorney Christine Zahralban said in court on Wednesday, “We have determined that Thomas Raynard James is actually innocent.”
