Eight Year Old Girl Killed in Augusta, Police Questioning Suspects
Police in Augusta, Georgia are searching for the public’s help after the murder of eight-year-old Arbrie Anthony on Saturday, January 8th. The shooting took place just before 7:30 pm on the 2000 block of Third Avenue.
Arbrie was outside her home petting horses when two people in a newer model red Jeep Compass drove by, striking her, a horse, and a car before speeding away.
Sheriff Richard Roundtree believes that this was a targeted attack, but Anthony was not the intended target. He says that his office, in cooperation with the U.S. Marshals, is not ruling out any possibilities. They are following any leads, including those with association to retaliatory gang violence. Three suspects have been detained in relation to the case after a traffic stop.
Sheriff Roundtree is hoping for cooperation from those arrested and from the community with this investigation. While he has stated that the phones at their police station are ringing off the hook, he urges people to keep calling in if they have any information. One phone call could change the trajectory of this case.
