Dallas Man Arrested and Charged With Capital Murder in 33-Year-Old Cold Case

Police in Dallas, Texas arrested 53-year-old David Rojas on Friday in connection with the 1989 murder of Mary Hague Kelly.

On January 19, 1989, Mary Hague Kelly was found dead in her home at 411 Frances Street. Officers noted how there was no sign of forced entry into the home, but that various personal belongings and her vehicle were missing. The Dallas County Medical Examiner later determined that she died by strangulation.

DNA samples were taken at the time of Kelly’s death, but police did not find a match until recently. DNA testing matched the sample taken from the crime scene to Rojas on June 28, 2022.

Rojas was arrested on Friday and is being held at the Dallas County Jail. Rojas is facing capital murder charges, according to the announcement made by police on Sunday.
