Court Records Reveal Motive Behind Murder of Queens Woman
The body of Orsolya Gaal, a wife and mother of two, was found inside of a duffel bag near her home in Queens this April. She had been stabbed approximately 50 times.
David Bonola, 44, was arrested for the crime five days later. Bonola had been hired as a handyman for the family and began having an affair with Gaal that lasted two years. After his arrest, the NYPD stated that Bonola “made incriminating statements” during their interrogation but provided no further details.
Court records unsealed on Tuesday reveal that Bonola stabbed Gaal to death because he “believed she had given him HIV,” according to the New York Post.
“She gave me HIV,” Bonola allegedly told detectives at his interrogation “she lied to me, she used me. She told me that she loved me. She couldn’t be with one person.”
Bonola, who was arraigned last week, told detectives during his interrogation that Gaal—who was married—was cheating on him. He says on the night of the murder he went to confront Gaal about his belief that she gave him HIV. Gaal denied the allegations and put an end to the affair.
Bonola then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began stabbing her in a fit of rage. After killing her, he stole Gaal’s laptop because he believed she had “sex videos” on it. He dragged the duffel bag containing Gaal’s body less than a mile from her home before fleeing. He told investigators he dumped the laptop into the Hudson River.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz released a statement after charges were filed saying that “the defendant has now been indicted and arraigned on very serious charges and faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.”
