Colorado Driver Killed on Road When Someone Threw a Rock at Her Car
CBS News reports Alexa Bartell, 20, was driving on Indiana Street, a long stretch of highway in Jefferson County when someone hurled a large rock through her windshield. The incident occurred on Wednesday at 10:45 p.m.
According to People, Bartell was on the phone with a close friend but stopped responding, and the phone went silent. The friend used an app to track Bartell’s phone and drove to her location. There the friend spotted Bartell’s Chevy Spark off the road and in a field. Jacki Kelley, a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, told the Denver Post, "As she approached, she could see Alexa was inside and was dead.”
Authorities are looking for whoever is responsible for throwing the rock at Bartell as well as a series of rock attacks that have swept the area starting on Wednesday night. Two other drivers were hurt in the attacks and suffered minor injuries. "These rocks are found inside the victim's vehicles after coming through the windshields," Kelley said. The Denver Post reports police are looking for "a light-colored pick-up truck or SUV.”
