Chicago hit-and-run leaves three dead

A hit-and-run occurred outside the historic LGBTQ bar, The Jeffery Pub, leaving three people dead and one injured early Sunday morning.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, an argument broke out inside the club, leading people to step outside when a silver sedan drove rapidly down the street.

The vehicle ran through the street at 5:00 a.m., killing 27-year-old Devonta Vivetter, 25-year-old Donald Huey, and 23-year-old Jaylen Ausley. The vehicle also hit a fourth person, leaving the victim in a serious condition.

Vivetter, Huey, and Ausley were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where they were pronounced dead. The fourth victim was taken to Stroger Hospital and is now in a stable condition.

Brendan Deenihan, Chief of Detectives, said, “It appears to be intentional. We don’t have any evidence to support that somebody was trying to harm these individuals based because of their race, religion, etc. That can change once we get more witnesses and a suspect in.”

Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle responsible for the hit-and-run after discovering the abandoned vehicle four blocks from the scene.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Area 1 detectives at (312) 747-8380 or submit an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com.
