Alex Murdaugh Gets 2 Life Sentences in Prison for Murders of Wife and Son
According to People, Alex Murdaugh was sentenced Friday morning to two life sentences in prison. The sentences will run consecutively. The conviction followed the day after Murdaugh was found guilty of the murders of his wife, Maggie, 52, and son, Paul, 22.
Paul Murdaugh was shot in the chest and head with a shotgun at close range and Maggie Murdaugh was shot multiple times. One shot was to her back, and additional shots were fired while she was lying on the ground. The two were shot on the family’s 1,770-acre property in Islandton on June 7. 2021. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The New York Times reports Alex Murdaugh stood silently in the courtroom as the verdicts were read. His older son, Buster Murdaugh, sat in the courtroom with “his hand over his mouth.” The jury also found Murdaugh guilty of two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Alex Murdaugh’s time in court is long from over. He faces dozen of charges for alleged financial crimes, including misappropriating money from his law firm, defrauding clients of funds, and computer crimes.
