Alabama Woman Murdered By Husband After Protection Order Lifted

Alabama realtor Martella Tyler, 40, was found dead alongside her husband, Justin Tyler, 43, in what police have determined to be a murder-suicide only three weeks after her protection order was dropped.

In February, Justin was arrested on charges of domestic abuse in February, after stabbing Martella and one of her three daughters. A protection order was granted to Martella three days later.

On May 12, the couple appeared in court together asking for the protection order to be dropped according to WAFF.

Police responded to 911 calls shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday morning about a domestic disturbance at the Tyler home in the 2000 block of York Road in Huntsville. When they arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.

Police allege that after Justin killed Martella, he then took his own life. Investigators found their bodies late Sunday morning.

In a GoFundMe campaign created to support Martella’s daughters, it states that one of Martella’s daughters was in the home but was able to escape with non-life threatening injuries.

Autopsies are scheduled for Martella and Justin according to the Huntsville Police Department.
