Accused Murderer wins Republican Primary for Town Board

An Indiana man, who is currently in jail waiting to stand trial for allegedly murdering his wife, will be on the November ballot for school board after winning a Republican primary.

Andrew Wilhoite, 39, received 60 votes (21.74%) in the GOP race for the Clinton Township board, FOX 59 News reports. He is one of three winners in the primary race.

Wilhoite was charged with the murder of his wife, Nikki Wilhoite, in March. After being questioned by police, Andrew Wilhoite confessed to “fatally striking Nikki in the face with a gallon-sized cement flowerpot” before throwing her body in a nearby creek.

Brad King, the co-director of the bipartisan Indiana Election Division, told the Kokomo Tribune that “there’s no legal reason he can’t be a candidate” and that it would be possible for Wilhoite to be administered and oath of office from his jail cell. He has the option to withdraw his name by June 15.

There has been no date scheduled for his murder trial.
