A woman escapes after being tortured and raped for months in a home in Chino Hills, California

A 22-year-old unidentified woman was able to escape after enduring 6 months of continuous torture, rape, and physical assault. Peter Anthony McGuire, 59, has been accused of kidnapping, torture, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment by violence, mayhem (disfigurement), forcible rape, and other sex crimes.

It was the night of June 9, when the woman escaped from McGuire’s home. A few moments later, bystanders would see her at Alterra Park and contact the police. The woman was then taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries, according to the district attorney’s office.

Before being held against her will, the woman had moved in with McGuire months prior. Mara Rodriguez, the public information officer at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, told ABC7 that soon after the woman moved in with McGuire, she was not allowed to leave, and that is when the torture began.

Authorities served a search warrant at Peter McGuire’s home and evidence was retrieved, but McGuire had already fled from his home. Not long after, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Peter Anthony McGuire.

According to the Los Angeles Times, on June 11, 2022, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) found McGuire at a home in Placentia, CA, and took him into custody.

At an arraignment in San Bernardino on Monday, June 13, Peter McGuire pleaded not guilty to all charges, but he was sent back to jail without bail.

McGuire will be back in court on Thursday.
