Witness from Kelsey Berreth Murder Case Released on Parole
Former Idaho nurse, who tampered with evidence in the Kelsey Berreth case, was put on parole Tuesday. Denver Women’s Correctional Facility released Krystal Jean Kenney, 34, on parole following her resentencing. Kenney helped Patrick Frazee cover up the 2018 murder of Berreth, his fiancée. Officials charged Kenney with evidence tampering and sentenced her to three years in prison Jan. 2020. They resentenced her to 18 months. According to The Colorado Sun, Frazee and Kenney had an on-again-off-again relationship. Additionally, Frazee asked Kenney to help kill Berreth on three separate occasions. According to The Gazette, Frazee instructed Kenney to bring Berreth poisoned coffee from Starbucks, to assault her with a metal pipe and to assault her with a baseball bat. So, Kenney knew about the murder plot, but did not warn Berreth. She further cleaned up the murder scene, and used Berreth's phone to fool others that she was still alive. However, evidence showed that Frazee threatened to kill her and her family if she did not comply with his demands. Teller County District Judge Scott Sells used this as reason in her sentencing. Since then, officials convicted Frazee of first-degree murder and sentenced him to life without parole plus 156 years. It is unclear where Kenney will serve her parole.
