Bell Charged With Friend's Fatal Shooting

Victor Bell Jr. was charged with third-degree murder on Tuesday after accidentally shooting his long-time friend in the head this weekend. The Pennsylvania teen had been hanging out with 23-year-old Diamond Rahatt at her Norristown home when he inadvertently fired Rahatt's gun and killed her. Bell, 16, told police that he had been laying in bed with Rahatt when a friend called him on Facetime. He stated that he had answered the call and was showing off the .40 caliber firearm when the gun accidentally went off and struck Rahatt in the head.According to local CBS News, a bullet had been found in the young woman's bedroom wall, which is consistent with Bell's statement that his friend had been seated on the bed at the time of the shooting. Investigators have also reported that Bell had posted a video of himself playing with Rahatt's gun around 40 minutes before the shooting occurred." Diamond Rahatt had her whole life ahead of her— a life cut short by the reckless handling of a gun," Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele stated. "The defendant was playing around and taking photos with a loaded gun without any regard for the danger and threat to human life the behavior posed. It was reckless and now a young woman is dead."Bell has been denied bail and is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility for third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and possession of an instrument of a crime. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on January 15.
