What inspired you to start your podcast?
Beth and Wendy have been big fans of podcasting for more than 10 years. After the 2016 election, Wendy had to stop listening to the political podcasts because they deceived her. Wendy started listening to true crime podcasts and discovered that Beth was a huge fan of all things true crime including podcasts. We started swapping podcast episode recommendations with each other. Wendy is a woman of color and was starting to notice that all of the true-crime stories being told were about white dudes. Beth, the OG of true crime as we like to call her, informed Wendy that there were, in fact, many well-documented cases about serial killers of color and their victims. Unfortunately, there were only a handful of podcasts on this topic from the perspective of a person of color. We decided to take a leap of faith and start our own true-crime podcast to address this void. We had no idea what we were doing but have been having fun learning the ropes, researching the material and interacting with fans. Beth’s super organized, great at techy stuff, research and she has been a true crime fan for decades. Wendy has been a woman of color with a big fat mouth for decades so the ladies decided to combine their forces and experience and Fruitloops was born. The show has evolved over the past 18 months with our experience and feedback from really supportive fans. Love us or hate us Fruitloops is here to stay.
What got you interested in true crime? Was there a murder in your hometown? A story that has always haunted you?
Beth really digs the psychology and finds the crimes fascinating. Wendy finds the cases fascinating as well and loves the gory details. Beth began her true crime interest after reading Helter Skelter a long time ago.
What’s your favorite murder, mystery, or disappearance?
Wendy has always loved the OJ Simpson story – most black people – Wendy included, didn’t believe or care if he did it or not. We just cared that finally a “justice” system that since its inception has put people of color behind bars, executed them, stole their rights, lives and destroyed their communities – finally worked in the favor of a black man. BUT, After seeing that documentary on Netflix a few years back, Wendy’s mind has been changed and she is pretty sure – he did it.

Beth loves True Crime Obsessed and Wendy loves Disgraceland. We both binged the shit out of Atlanta Monster and White Lies which were series about specific cases and the stories were riveting and very well told. Atlanta Monster is a deep deep dive into the Case of the 29 black children that were murdered in Atlanta and Wayne Williams was accused of the crimes. The black community believed the murders were committed by the KKK and the white community believed it was Wayne Williams. White Lies is the case where 3 white clergy members headed Martin Luther King’s call to come to the south and help in the fight for civil rights. They were attacked and one of them died. Everyone knew who did it – but no one said anything until now.
