The Trial for the 1993 Minneapolis Murder of Jeanie Ann Childs Has Begun
The opening statements have finished for the long-awaited trial for the murder of Jeanne Ann Childs in 1993, a cold case in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After 25 years of waiting, a suspect has been arrested and is facing a trial to determine if he is guilty of the killing.
Jeanie Childs (35) was found stabbed to death in her upper apartment of the Horn Towers in South Minneapolis in June. According to Fox 9, Childs was a known sex worker in the area, and the accused has at least admitted to paying for her services.
Jerry Westrom was arrested in February 2019 according to CBS after his DNA in tissue from a hockey game was taken and matched to DNA found at the crime scene, along with matching a bloody footprint. Westrom is being charged with first-degree murder, and it is believed that his assault was premeditated.
In defense of Westrom, his attorneys raise that there are numerous other suspects who could have been the culprit, the most likely case being Childs’s pimp who lived with her at the time of her murder but who has since died.
