The Case of the Newborn Found in Key West Hotel Bathroom

On October 31st, 2004, an unidentified pregnant woman was seen existing the women’s bathroom in Hilton Resort and Marina in Key West, Florida at 2 in the morning. Later that day, a member of staff discovered the body of an infant in a garbage bin. The woman has never been identified.

Authorities combed through surveillance footage and questioned witnesses after a staff member cleaning the bathrooms discovered the body of a newborn infant girl in one of the trash bins. The umbilical cord had not been cut and the placenta was still attached, according to Listverse. Witnesses described a woman seen entering the bathroom and disappearing for forty minutes, while others provided sketches of two of the three men accompanying the woman, according to The Miami Herald. Witnesses also claimed they heard one of the men call for the woman with either the name “Sonia” or “Samantha.”

As authorities collected prints and examined leads, they also profiled Casey Anthony, who at the time fit the same profile as the woman. While this lead led to another dead end, Anthony would later be acquitted in the death of her daughter Caylee in 2011, according to The Sun.

Neither the woman nor any of her companions, who were also not hotel guests and were escorted out by security after the woman emerged from the bathroom, were ever found. The case remains unsolved.
