Teenage Head Guitarist Gord Lewis Found Dead, Son Charged With Murder
Founding Teenage Head guitarist Gord Lewis was found dead in his apartment over the weekend. His son Jonathan Lewis, 41, has been charged with second-degree murder.
During a press briefing Monday, Dt. Sgt. Sara Beck of the Hamilton, Ontario homicide unit, details how multiple media outlets began receiving emails about a deceased person. The email accounts were in the name of Lewis’ son, Jonathan. A concerned staff member then called emergency services to conduct a welfare check.
Police were then dispatched to Lewis’ apartment at 175 Catherine Street South where they found a deceased male in his 60s. Due to the level of decomposition, police must perform an autopsy to positively identify the body. Gord’s bandmates and brother Brian have taken to social media to express their grief.
Lewis co-founded the punk rock band Teenage Head in 1975 alongside guitarist Steve Park, drummer Frankie Venom, and Dave Desroches. Their most famous lineup consisted of Venom providing vocals, Nick Stipanitz playing drums and Steve Mahon playing bass.
In 1980, the band released their album Frantic City, with two songs, “Let’s Shake” and “Some Kind of Fun” becoming Canadian classics. Recently, the band was the subject of a 2020 documentary: “Picture My Face, The Story of Teenage Head.”
Jonathan Lewis has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. According to Dt. Sgt. Beck, police are not searching for any other suspects in the case.
