A red hand over the mouth has become the symbol of a growing movement, MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women), which stands for all the voices that have not been heard by media, society, and the government. It stands for the oppression and untold stories of Native women who we have lost and keep losing.
The two suspects in Sunday’s stabbing attacks in Saskatchewan, brothers Damien and Myles Sanderson, have both died. The deceased victims from Sunday’s attacks have been identified either by police or family members and range in age from 23-78.
Ten people have been killed and 18 injured in a stabbing spree on the James Smith Cree Nation and in the village of Weldon in Saskatchewan. The two suspects, Damien Sanderson and Myles Sanderson, are still at large.
Two women have been arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Charles Kovats.
