New Podcast Episode: The Woman in the Barrel
When mummified human remains were discovered inside of a 55-gallon drum stashed in the crawlspace of a Long Island home, Nassau County investigators had to work backwards to solve a mysterious murder case three decades in the making. The victim was a young, Latinx woman with an almost full-term pregnancy, but a search of missing persons reports filed over the years failed to find a match. Before they were able to identify the body as belonging to 27-year-old Reyna Marroquín, forensic analysts first figured out the approximate age of the barrel, and indicated a strong suspect. In 1999, dedicated detectives brought closure to a case that didn't receive the attention it deserved back in 1969, when the murder took place.
