Former NASCAR Driver Bobby East Killed in Stabbing Attack in California

Former NASCAR driver Bobby East, 37, was killed last Wednesday in a stabbing attack at a Westminster, California, gas station.

Officers responded to 911 calls just before 6 p.m. at a 76 gas station. Police found East lying on the ground with a “serious stab wound to the chest area” according to a statement released by the Westminster Police Department. East was then transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The United States Auto Club remembered East as “one of the most prolific drivers of his era.” East won 56 times within USAC sanctioned events and three national driving titles.

Police quickly identified the suspect as Trent William Millsap. Police were given an arrest warrant for Millsap on Friday. At the time of the murder, Millsap was on parole for armed robbery and another outstanding warrant for an unrelated parole violation.

Police requested a SWAT team due to the “the level of violence Milsap had been exhibiting.” As authorities tried to arrest Milsap Friday, he became confrontational with them and a K-9 was deployed. After this, police began shooting towards Millsap. Millsap would later die on his way to the hospital.
