Estimated 22 People Killed During Monastery Massacre in Myanmar
CNN reports that 22 people, including three monks, were killed at a monastery in Myanmar on Saturday. Local insurgent groups and the military-backed junta accused each other of carrying out a massacre.
22 bodies were recovered at a bullet ridden monastery. It’s reported that soldiers ambushed the monastery where it’s believed villagers spent the past month seeking shelter and protection from ongoing battles between the military and armed civilians since February of 2021, according to People.
An unnamed leader of the Karenni claims he witnessed about 100 soldiers torching homes and unleashing a barrage of bullets on the village. Several soldiers this month were accused of raping and beheading at least 17 people in western Myanmar villages.
