Escaped Killer in Texas Still Missing as Reward is Offered
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has announced a $50K reward for any information on the whereabouts or sightings of Gonzalo Lopez, an escaped inmate currently believed to be on the loose in the Robbins and Centerville area.
On Thursday, May 12, Gonzalez was being transported with 13 other inmates when he broke free from his restraints and stabbed the officer driving in the hand. According to ABC News, the officer was able to fight Gonzalez off in an attempt to maintain control of the vehicle while a second officer shot at him, possibly injuring him. The bus turned over, and Gonzalez escaped towards a cow pasture.
Gonzalez, age 46, was serving two life sentences for murder and attempted murder after killing a man with a pickaxe on the Texas-Mexico border and then attempting to shoot a sheriff’s deputy in 2006 according to CNN. Gonzalez is believed to have connections with the Mexican mafia as well, who may be aiding in his hiding. He is described as six-foot, 185 pounds with tattoos across his chest and back.
Police and law enforcement in Leon County have instructed those in Robbins and Centerville to keep their doors locked and lookout for signs of him. Anyone who sees him should immediately call 9-1-1 or the sheriff’s office [903) 536-2749].
