Large-Scale Searches For Missing Candice Caffas Halted

Large-scale search efforts have been halted by the Pennsylvania State Police for missing and endangered woman Candice Caffas.

Caffas is believed to have gone missing between 10 p.m. on July 15th and 3 a.m. on July 16th. Her mother reported her missing at 3:10 a.m. on July 16th. She also explained to troopers how she believed Caffas ran away after leaving their home through a bathroom window in their home at the 9100 block of Mt. Pleasant Road in Union Township, south of Meadville.

Caffas is believed to be at special risk of harm or injury due to a mental disability. Police Lt. Mark Weindorf said that Caffas has run away before, but was quickly located each time according to Go Erie.

Officers and members of the public came together to search for Caffas over the last ten days, using ATVs, state police on mounted units, and many volunteers searching for her on foot. Other agencies including the Pennsylvania Game Commission and local fire departments also joined in an effort to find her.

State police announced Saturday afternoon that they had exhausted all current leads and large-scale searches would be halted. They are still going to investigate leads as to the possible whereabouts of Caffas.

The surrounding community has come together to look for Candice. A Facebook group which was made to help share information on the search has garnered nearly 8,000 members. They are continuing to search on the ground in an effort to help find Caffas.

Caffas 35th birthday was Saturday, July 23. She is 4’9” tall, weighs about 95 pounds, has dirty blonde hair, and green eyes. She is believed to be wearing glasses, a purple t-shirt, orange pants with a flower design, and purple and blue sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Meadville office of the Pennsylvania State Police at 814-332-6911. If you see her, you are asked to immediately call 911 and continue to follow her from a distance.
