IN Parents Arrested After 6-Year-Old Son Fatally Shoots Sister
Around 2:25PM on Tuesday, a 5-year-old girl from Indiana was transported to a hospital where she would later die of a gunshot wound to the head. People Magazine reports that the girl’s father, 28-year-old Jacob Curtis Grayson, told the press his 6-year-old son had accidentally shot his sister with a gun from the couple’s bedroom safe. The boy backed this up when speaking to police, allegedly adding that he’d taken the loaded gun from the safe to play with while his mother, 27-year-old Kimberly Danielle Grayson, was napping.
People Magazine states that the key had been left in the keyhole of the safe, which contained two handguns.
According to WHIO-TV, Jacob and Kimberly stated their son had opened the safe before, and that they had previously taken him to a shooting range to “learn how to fire a handgun.”
Investigators found evidence that the house’s unsafe living conditions included "food, trash, animal feces and furniture strewn throughout the house.” Jacob and Kimberly were subsequently arrested on the charges of felony neglect of a dependent resulting in death as well as three misdemeanor counts of neglect. They have not yet entered pleas, and People Magazine could not yet confirm their legal representation.
Jacob posted bail for release, while Kimberly currently remains in custody.
