Wesley Allen Beeler was arrested Friday evening after U.S. Capitol police found a loaded handgun and over 500 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle while stopped at a security checkpoint. Following the violent riots on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, security has been heightened in the D.C. area in preparation for the presidential inauguration this Wednesday. When stopped at a Capitol security checkpoint, Beeler attempted to present officers with “unauthorized inauguration credentials.”
The FBI is tracking down and charging anyone who participated in illegal activity during last Wednesday’s violent riots at the U.S. Capitol for their misdemeanor and/or felony crimes.
At 6 a.m. on Wednesday, thousands of Trump supporters gathered around The Ellipse in Washington D.C. to prepare for a pro-Trump rally. When Trump stepped on stage, he told the massive crowd, “after this, we’re going to walk down . . . to the Capitol and we are going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women.” After Trump concluded his speech an hour later, his followers stormed toward the Capitol.
