Captain Jerry Nehl Boylan, whose dive boat P/V Conception caught fire last year and killed 33 passengers and one crew member, was formally indicted Tuesday on 34 counts of seaman’s manslaughter. According to The United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, a federal grand jury indicted the captain based on the allegation that “his misconduct, negligence, and inattention to his duties” led to the deaths of 34 people.

The ex-partner of a heavily pregnant woman has been jailed for stabbing her to death in her own home.

Kelly Fauvrelle was knifed 21 times in the middle of the night in her Croydon bedroom. Her baby boy Riley, who was delivered by Caesarean, died four days later.

Aaron McKenzie, 26, from Peckham, was found guilty of the murder of Ms Fauvrelle and Riley’s manslaughter.

A former police officer in New Mexico was charged Thursday with second-degree murder after authorities say he killed a Latino detainee he had placed in a chokehold.

State Attorney General Hector Balderas said he filed the charges against former Las Cruces police Officer Christopher Smelser in the death of Antonio Valenzuela.

Police say Smelser applied the chokehold after a foot chase in February when Valenzuela fled during a traffic stop.

According to court records, Quebec Superior Court Justice Hélène Di Salvo delivered the sentence via video link-up between the Montreal courthouse and a provincial detention centre where he was held.

A middle-aged man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of killing a pedestrian in a horror hit-and-run crash just two days before Christmas.

The suspects, a 59-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, were detained after police appealed for information about a £70,000 blue Jaguar XJ which was believed to have ploughed into the 38-year-old man and then sped off.
