On Wednesday, August 19, a procession was held at the Los Angeles International Airport for a 21-year-old paratrooper who was suspiciously murdered and dismembered. According to ABC7, Enrique Roman-Martinez was an army paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division from Chino, California. During the Memorial Day weekend, Martinez had decided to go camping with seven other soldiers from Fort Bragg to an island off the outer banks of North Carolina.

Anyone who has been following the Golden State Killer case, or watching I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, will be shocked to read a newly released letter to the court, written by Joseph DeAngelo’s oldest daughter. In the letter, she describes him as a loving and attentive father and grandfather. It’s a bit of a disturbing read, as his daughter neglects to even refer to the lives lost and negatively impacted by the confessed GSK’s cruel acts. Throughout the entire letter she recounts all the positive gestures her father has made in hers and her daughter’s lives, which of course doesn’t negate the horrific effect this serial killer has had on the lives of his over 50 victims and their families. 

“My father is Joseph James DeAngelo. I am his oldest daughter. I lived with him almost my entire life of 38 years, and my daughter lived with him almost her entire life of 19 years. My father, the person that I knew, and know today…”

Forty years after the kidnapping and murder of 21-year-old Helene Pruszynski, her family received justice.

On Wednesday, James Clanton was sentenced to life in prison for the 1980 murder of Pruszynski, the Denver Post reports. In February, Clanton pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder after deliberation. He was arrested three months earlier after investigators used “genetic genealogy” technology on DNA evidence found on Pruszynski’s body and clothing.

An estimated 15,000 protesters turned out to march down Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway in solidarity with Black transgender lives on Sunday, more than three weeks into the racial uprising sparked by the death of George Floyd. Dressed all in white, the group advanced like a tide.  A collaboration between The Okra Project, which provides meals to black trans people, and the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, the rally endeavored to call attention to the disproportionated levels of violence and discrimination that black trans individuals face.

Authorities identified the teenager who was killed Tuesday after a shooting in a north Tulsa neighborhood. Reginald Phillips, 17, died Tuesday following a shooting in the 5100 block of North Frankfort Avenue, Tulsa Police Lt. Brandon Watkins said.

More than two and a half years after the murder of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano, and after two trials and the postponement of the killer’s initial sentencing, Chanel Lewis learned his fate Tuesday.

The 22-year-old convicted in the August 2016 murder and sexual assault will serve life in prison, without the chance of parole.

LAPD seeks tips in investigation of fatal shooting in Pacoima

The Los Angeles Police Department pleaded for tips from the public Sunday in the investigation of a fatal shooting in Pacoima.

Officers responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon in the 13200 block of Cornelius Street at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, according to LAPD. They found Davon Pledger, a 26-year-old Van Nuys resident, lying on the ground and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Royal “Scoop” Daniel was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on Wednesday afternoon and was being held on a $175,000 bond. Border patrol agents arrested him.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has filed several felony charges, including aggravated murder, against the man accused of killing Tony and Katherine Butterfield of West Jordan.

Albert Enoch Johnson, 31, faces two counts of criminal homicide/aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated murder and two counts of aggravated kidnapping, one count of aggravated burglary, two counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and one count of obstructing justice in connection with the Butterfields’ deaths.

Authorities await autopsy in Tennessee missing girl case

At a press conference Friday night, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said they believed they found the remains of Evelyn Mae Boswell earlier that evening. The remains are being sent for autopsy and positive identification, Sheriff Jeff Cassidy said. Authorities acting on a tip found the remains on a property in Blountville that is owned by a relative of Evelyn’s mother, the sheriff said.

The mother of Sophie Lancaster says she believes there is “no justice” as one of her daughter’s killers had his minimum jail term cut.

Ryan Herbert, then 16, was one of two men handed life sentences for murdering Sophie, 20, who died of her injuries after being savagely beaten along with her boyfriend in a park in Lancashire in 2007.

In a crime that shook the nation Sophie and boyfriend Rob Maltby were targeted by “feral thugs” because they were members of the goth subculture and “looked and dressed differently.”
