He kicked Kari in the stomach and stomped on her face, shouted anti-Asian slurs and told her, “you don’t belong here.”

Today, most transgender murder cases continue to remain unsolved in the United States because police are struggling to connect with LGBTQ+ communities and properly represent victims in the media. Several experts and advocates for the transgender and LGBTQ+ communities have stated that United States police routinely fail to protect transgender victims via illformed state hate crime laws and improper identification practices such as misgendering and misnaming individuals.
Covington Faces 52-Count Indictment
After an arraignment on Wednesday, notorious New York City “Subway Attacker” Khari Covington is now facing a 52-count indictment against him for burglary, assault and strangulation as hate crimes. Covington allegedly targeted “light-skinned women” during a string of attacks that occurred between August 2020 and January 4 in Brooklyn’s East Williamsburg neighborhood. Most of the attacks happened in the Morgan Avenue subway station, but one took place near the station and another at a smoke shop.
