In pure pandemic style, courts in Indonesia and Singapore have utilized Zoom to serve death sentences to individuals convicted of drug trafficking. 19 drug offenders were sentenced to death in Indonesia during virtual hearings held on Zoom and What’s App between March 2020 and March of this year. Two drug trafficking convictions resulted in death by hanging in Singapore last year.
The most recent actions of the South Carolina Senate have resurrected the antiquated methods of capital punishment by way of electric chair or firing squad. South Carolina is one of twenty-eight states who remain pro-capital punishment.
This past Tuesday the states Senate voted in favor to restart state executions after a decade-long moratorium. The bill will implement older practices such as the electric chair, the new default for capital punishment, with death by firing squad as an “alternative”.
